Qualification Purpose
The aim of the Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Chemical Skin Peeling Treatments (RQF) is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely provide chemical skin peels.
Age Ranges: Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 18 to undertake this qualification.
Geographical Coverage: This qualification is available in England.
Learner Entry Requirements: Learners must have previously completed and achieved an anatomy and physiology qualification at a minimum of Level 4, with a core knowledge of facial anatomy and experience of investigative consultation.
Students will learn:
Fitzpatrick Skin Type Classification Scale
Explain cosmetic skin peel agents, and how to use and adapt these for different conditions and types of skin
Evaluate cosmetic skin peeling
Explain the pH scale and its effects on the chemical skin peeling treatment
Compare the effects of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) and Poly Hydroxy Acids (PHA)
Explain the restrictions of chemical peeling agents, the parameters that an aesthetics practitioner must adhere to, and the importance of compliance
Compare different types of skin peels and the potential for chemical agents to cause harm
Explain the chemical peel application process and safety precautions that must be adhered to
Evaluate the benefits of skin priming and explain adaptions which should be considered when treating scale 4-6 skin types on the Fitzpatrick classification scale
Explain possible contra-actions relevant to skin peeling
Explain types of aftercare products available and their benefits post- treatment
Be able to plan for chemical skin peeling treatments. Use appropriate methods of consultation, obtaining written and signed informed consent of the client

Explain the requirements for safe and effective treatment
Identify the benefits of skin needling treatments
Explain the process of skin needling treatments
Explain legislation for skin needling treatments
Describe possible side effects of skin needling treatments
Explain how to adapt skin needling treatments
Be able to plan for skin needling treatments. Use appropriate methods of consultation, obtaining written and signed informed consent of the client Use appropriate questions to identify any contraindications
Carry out a skin analysis
